Toyota production increasing faster than expected. Hybrids?
Time for North American Prius hybrid production
Today, Toyota is only producing about 30 percent as many vehicles in North America as normal due to the supply shortage caused by the Japanese tsunami. However, by June North American production should be back to at least 70 percent according to Toyota with full production before the end of the year.
Unfortunately, it is still unclear how this production increase will impact models like the Toyota Prius since the Prius is not currently produced in the US.
Nevertheless, since much of the production slowdown in the US was caused by problems in Japan, it seems that Japanese production must also be improving faster than anticipated. Consequently, the supply shortage of Prius hybrids at many US dealerships should improve by this summer, even though selection will still probably be limited through the year.
Anyway, it seems like it’s time for Toyota to put North American Prius production back in the table.

I’m also looking forward to that sub-$20,000 hybrid. Hopefully, the Prius C gets us there.
I am glad to see that Toyota is upping production and I hope that the best selling hybrid is built in the U.S. soon. I cant wait for the compact pruis to come out with a price tag under $20,000 it should also be built in the U.S. because no doubt will it be a big seller.
