Toyota Prius one of top 10 most value-packed cars – Forbes
Only hybrid on the list
Toyota has now sold more than 3 million hybrid cars, largely thanks to the Toyota Prius.
Why does the Prius resonate?
For years many have claimed it’s just about green statements, but over and over again the Prius is picked as one of the most value-packed cars, and Forbes is the latest to come to that conclusion.
To determine the best value-packed cars Forbes used cost-of-ownership data, then ranked all cars by suggested retail prices coupled with “depreciation, taxes and fees, fuel costs, insurance, interest, maintenance, opportunity costs and repairs” after 5 years.
One key factor for the Prius, the only hybrid vehicle on the list, was excellent resale value.
Interestingly, Forbes made this determination with gas prices just under $3.00. Considering that gas prices are almost $4.00 per gallon in places like Los Angeles, one can only assume that for urbanites, the Prius is even a better value.
JD Power, Consumer Reports, Kippplingers, Forbes. Can they all be wrong? Quite simply, the Prius is a great car for the money.

I agree LJ. Who cares? I came to realize those things weren’t really that important. I’ve also come to realize that I enjoy trying to figure out new ways of hypermiling more than I ever enjoyed driving a conventional vehicle.
The Prius is not just about green statements!
I’ve had conversations like that as well, Larry!!!
My wife has a Rav4 that we wanted to get as a hybrid but was not available.
2 years later – she says ” ‘we’ made a mistake – ‘I’ should have gotten a Prius”.
I hope you got the import of the ‘we’!
I have 141k miles on my Prius. The highest maintenance cost is tire. Second is probably struts. Still on the original brake pads. Every oil change requires only 3.5 quarts!
