When it comes to hybrid cars, the Toyota Prius often tops the list of most categories. Most fuel efficient. Most sales, etc. Well, the Prius has added another ‘best’ to its list of bests.
According to Edmunds, the Toyota Prius is the best bet for a used hybrid car.
Based on safety, reliability, value and availability the Prius was chosen as the best hybrid made between the years 2003 – 2008, the ideal range for a used car. According to Edmunds the ideal time to buy a used car is when it is 2-3 years old, but never older than 7 years.
Of course, the Prius didn’t face a whole lot of competition during those years, so this ‘best’ really isn’t much of a surprise.
The Toyota Prius is a good car. Toyota in general is a good make and yes I agree with Jack, the Toyota Prius is one of the best in Hybrid cars
What price were you quoted for a new battery pack, rennerb? Did you have any problems leading up to the failure that were noted during your warranty?
I think you’re beyond the warranty time, although some states did extend the Prius warranty, but I’m not sure on the first gen Prius. Might be worth looking into. Also, i know a guy that salvages used honda battery packs. Perhaps there is someone out there doing the same with Prius packs?
My 2001 Prius’s hybrid battery failed and is about to cost me thousands of $$ to fix. Had only 98k miles on it. 2 seperate dealerships confirm the battery failed. Awaiting if Toyota will “do anything for me”. Not pleased!
Prius is bigger and more powerful. It gives horsepower from 110 to 134. New Parius contain keyless entry, joystick shifter, high-tech energy monitor, and camera system. Amazing car looks.
i agree, but this is california – the by far largest hybrid market in the US.
I’m not surprised by these numbers; I live in Orange County CA and I see the Prius EVERYWHERE. I mean it, every morning I’m always stuck behind a Prius in traffic.

This car has made highest sale all over the world in hybrid category.
Prius also face some problems & Toyota has solved them very frequently.

What happens to the fuel cells in Hybrids once the car is dead? I mean, the initial benefits are tremendous… are there any long term consequences?
