Toyota hybrid sales down almost 9 percent in April
A lack of hybrid supplies?
Despite much higher gas prices compared to last April, sales of Toyota’s hybrid cars declined 8.8 percent compared to last year. Additionally, compared to March, Toyota’s hybrid sales took an even bigger hit.
Apparently, Toyota’s Prius supplies aren’t quite as “adequate” as Toyota has suggested in recent weeks.
In March, Toyota sold 24,739 total hybrids, led by the Prius with 18,605 sales. In April, total hybrid sales dropped to 16,327, while the Prius fell to 12,477 units sold.
Recently, I went Prius shopping at my local Toyota dealership and found that while a few Prius hybrids were in stock, supplies were down significantly. Unfortunately, Toyota’s May hybrid sales will probably fall even more sharply and that could be the trend through the summer.
