Toyota, Daimler partner on fuel cells
Partnerships the new Toyota way?
Last week Toyota hooked up with Tesla on electric cars and this week Toyota is set to partner with Daimler on fuel cells. Not bad for a company that is often criticized for being too insular.
Unfortunately, few details are yet available regarding this deal. Nonetheless, Toyota’s new partnership-minded attitude is refreshing.
And while many might call any resources spent on fuel cells a waste of resources, fuel cell and hydrogen production breakthroughs have been occurring at a very rapid pace in recent months, and the possibility of cost-effective fuel cell vehicles is actually becoming almost conceivable.
Nonetheless, despite these breakthroughs – and even if cost-effectiveness is theoretically achieved – scale will be the ultimate key to any new technology, especially something as advanced as fuel cell technology, which is probably the reason for this partnership.

Been some great breakthroughs in deriving hydrogen from water recently with various different catalysts by Japan’s Energy Technology Research Institute. Obviously, Honda has been fuel cell crazy for several years, and Toyota has been bullish and is becoming more bullish. Considering that some of the best hydrogen-production research is coming out of Japan, it’s hard not to wonder if there isn’t some connection.
Hydrogen on demand from h2o is the way to go. Electric is good but HHO is way better .. Glad to see Toyota step up . Hope they have the balls to do this. Oil suppression powers are very well funded.
