Toyota Camry: The most American hybrid

Based on the fact that the Toyota Camry is the most American car, is the Camry hybrid the most American hybrid?

Most American family car?

The best hybrid to buy this 4th of July?

For the fourth year in a row the Toyota Camry took the top spot in Cars.com’s American-Made Index, just barely beating out the Ford F150 pickup truck.

Like the conventional Camry, the Camry hybrid is also built at Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky plant according to the latest data I could find. So does that make the Toyota Camry hybrid the most American hybrid?

Unlike the non-hybrid Camry, the Camry hybrid requires extra hybrid parts, many of which are assembled outside of the US, so I’m certain the Camry hybrid is less American than the conventional Camry. However, aside from the hybrid parts, the Camry hybrid is pretty much just a Camry. Moreover, there isn’t another car on the list of top American made vehicles that comes in a hybrid, let alone one made by an American automaker.

Certainly, that’s not conclusive evidence that the Camry hybrid is the most American made hybrid, but I don’t think such an assumption is that much of a stretch based on the facts available. So, for now, I’m naming the Toyota Camry the most American hybrid.
