Save money on a Toyota Prius hybrid this Fourth of July?

The Toyota Prius offers some of the worst deals off MSRP heading into the 4th.

Think conventional Prius for the best Prius deal this 4th.

At least a little

Heading out for some car shopping this 4th? If you’ve watched TV recently, then you’ve no doubt seen the commercials for 4th of July car sales.

Unfortunately, at least based on pricing data from Carwoo!, the best deals below MSRP won’t be available on hybrid cars. Instead, the Ford F150 pickup truck leads the way.

Still, according to Carwoo! you can at least save a little money on a Toyota Prius hybrid this 4th. Read more…

With the July 4th holiday quickly approaching, many Americans are preparing to go car shopping. Unfortunately, some hybrid shoppers might have a hard time finding their preferred hybrid.

Toyota Corolla a better compact than the Toyota Prius?

The Toyota Corolla is cheaper upfront, but the Prius is still often a better deal long term.

A better deal than the Prius?

What is a compact?

The other day JD Power released their Initial Quality Survey details and there weren’t many highlights for hybrid cars. However, one result definitely caught my attention. According to JD Power, the Toyota Corolla is the best compact car, followed by the Toyota Prius.

Of course, is the Prius even a compact? Read more…

Hybrid cars. Still a great American mistake

The Toyota FT-Bh hybrid concept might be ugly, but it's a game changer that will set the hybrid revolution in motion.

It might be ugly, but its cost and fuel economy will be over-whelming

What if every automaker sold as many hybrid vehicles as did Toyota last month?

Yesterday was an interesting day. Turns out that hybrid cars are more green than plug-ins in a majority of American markets. And, even where plug-ins offer a significant green advantage, range anxiety and costs remain huge obstacles to widespread plug-in adoption. Unfortunately, those costs and that range anxiety probably won’t be resolved until sometime in the next decade according to another study released yesterday. Even then, the improvements might not be enough for all out mainstream plug-in penetration.

Quite simply, plug-ins have a long journey ahead, but for Toyota, mainstream hybrid cars are already here. Read more…

53 mpg city: Think about it when you’re stuck in congestion

The Fiat 500 is a nice car, but it doesn't match up to the Toyota Prius C in city driving.

It's pretty, but how does it compare to the Prius C in urban living?

And those 40 mpg compacts turn into 20-something mpg cars

I know, everyone wants to talk about the prototype lithium-ion battery explosion that rocked GM this morning. Why? It was a prototype battery being tested for such outcomes. So, they’ll have to tweak the chemistry. That’s the nature of prototypes. The explosion means nothing in terms of the Chevy Volt.

Anyway, had to run an errand this morning in rainy LA — two things that don’t mix. Thus, I got stuck on the 110, and since I wasn’t going anywhere I had a lot of time to observe the scene around me, and all the pretty little compact cars, pretending to be fuel efficient. Read more…

Overall savings: The two best cars for higher gas prices

The Mitsubishi i plug-in is one of the best most fuel efficient and cost-effective cars for higher gasoline prices along with the Toyota Prius c hybrid car.

The i plug-in can be good for your wallet long term

The right mix of cost and fuel economy

So, you need a new ride and cost-effectiveness is your key benchmark. That means long term thinking. The only way to squeeze the most out of an automotive purchase is to think long term, and if you’re going to think long term, then you need to factor in long term costs of ownership.

Thus, the best two cars for higher gas prices, with long term cost-effectiveness and cheap upfront costs as the key metrics, are the Mitsubish i and the Toyota Prius c. Read more…

Car buyers should expect higher gasoline prices through July

Rising gasoine prices are expected through the summer and hot hybrid cars like the Prius C might feel dealer markups.

Prius C supply shortages bad news as gas prices rise higher

Are dealer markups on hot hybrid cars next?

Here’s the good news. While rising gasoline prices are “a major problem” they should not be enough to derail the moderately improving economy Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told ABC’s Diane Sawyer, as long as problems with Israel and Iran don’t escalate much more.

Unfortunately, gasoline prices are primed to continue to rise well into July, and that will be a “major hardship for lots of people”. Read more…

The Toyota Prius C and everything wrong with America

The subcompact Toyota Prius C isn't the perfect car ever, but it does demonstrate many things wrong with American auto cutlure, and American culture at large.

Prius c makes too much sense for most American car buyers

Summing up Americana through the US auto culture

After reading that the Kia Rio EX was Consumer Report’s top pick amongst subcompacts, I started matching it up with the Toyota Prius C. Immediately, it became obvious to me just how much sense the Prius C makes. Of course, it became equally as obvious why the Prius C won’t be the top selling subcompact car in America anytime soon.

Interestingly, the Prius C is a unique benchmark for America, and what it shows is a very dysfunctional country. Read more…

Outselling the Toyota Prius with a cheaper Prius C

The new Toyota Prius C might outsell the original Prius, but how many new sales will it add to the Prius family?

Early numbers indicate the Prius C is hot

Prius C off to a good start, but will it drive Toyota hybrid sales much higher?

A lot of hype on Friday over the first 3 days of Toyota Prius C sales. With 1200 units sold, the Prius C topped February sale’s totals for both the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf, many pointed out. While that’s somewhat interesting, it’s not really surprising based on numerous consumer surveys.

The real benchmark is conventional Toyota Prius sales, followed by total Prius family sales. Read more…
