Price premium for that lifetime battery guarantee?

Just a hybrid marketing ploy?

Last month we covered Hyundai’s lifetime Sonata hybrid battery warranty that guarantees that Hyundai will replace the lithium-ion battery pack in the Sonata hybrid and recycle it, if needed. Then, however, we weren’t sure if that warranty would be transferable.

Unfortunately, the warranty is not transferable, but it’s still a good industry standard that other automakers should follow, as long as it doesn’t affect pricing. Read more…

2012 hybrid sedan domination, at least on the highway

What’s the best way to check out the fuel economy of a few hybrid cars? A long highway cruise, of course, at least if you’re MotorTrend.

Hyundai, Kia hybrids come up a little short

Kia Optima hybrid and the Hyundai Sonata hybrid are coming up a bit short in terms of fuel economy and price. They look good, but it's hard to get over their premium.

A great looking hybrid, but......

No wonder Hyundai believes ICE is the key to better fuel economy

Boy did I have high hopes for Hyundai hybrid cars a few years ago. While Hyundai was slow to the hybrid game, as their hybrids moved closer and closer to reality, a few pretty bullish forecasts were teed up by a few South Korean executives.

Plus, its cool lithium-polymer battery technology seemed like maybe it could be a game changer. Read more…

The Kia Optima hybrid will probably be delayed until at least May because or recent Hyundai Sonata hybrid delays.

Optima hybrid due later this Spring

A tough start for Hyundai’s hybrids

Because of changing regulations regarding the noise that hybrid and electric vehicles need to make for better safety, Hyundai recently delayed the full launch of the Sonata hybrid. While partial deliveries have been restarted, far greater supplies should be available in late April.

Unfortunately, this Sonata hybrid delay continues to delay the launch of the Kia Optima hybrid. Read more…

Hyundai Sonata hybrid delayed due to gov regulations

The Hyundai Sonata hybrid is being delayed to make it compliant with new noise regulations imposed by the government for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Out of compliance

Sonata hybrid just doesn’t sound right

Because of new government regulations requiring an artificial engine noise for hybrid and plug-in vehicles when in electric mode – when the cars are virtually silent, at least compared to conventional cars – the Hyundai Sonata hybrid has been delayed.

Rather than begin selling Sonata hybrids that would only have to be recalled later, Hyundai has decided to upgrade their sound systems before delivery. Read more…
