Interesting pricing and great resale value, yet poor Honda hybrid sales

Honda's hybrid cars have offered some of the best resale value and best pricing in the hybrid segment, yet Honda's hybrid sales have lagged. 2012 will be a benchmark year for gauging Honda's hybrid mojo.

Can great resale value get Honda's hybrid cars back on track?

2 out 3 just ain’t good enough

Today, Honda doesn’t just offer the cheapest hybrid, but also the hybrid with the greatest resale value for 2012, yet Honda sales still got slammed last month.

Some of this lag in sales was caused by the launch of the 2012 Honda Civic hybrid as well as supply shortages caused by the Japanese earthquake this Spring. Nevertheless, something appears missing from Honda’s hybrid mojo. Read more…

Cheaper compact hybrids coming from Honda

Honda's future includes cheaper compact=

Hybrids the key to Honda

More mid-sized Honda hybrids also coming

While the idea of world cars seems to be gaining traction in the auto industry as a way to scale down costs, meeting regional demands is still going to require regional products according to Honda. Hence, while cars like the Fit will be sold in several different markets, the next-gen Fit will be developed “at each R&D base in the world’s six regions simultaneously” to ensure a proper fit for each each market.

Likewise, cheaper hybrids will also be a bigger part of the formula. Read more…

The RDX will be Acura's first hybrid in 2012

Finally, Honda adds some hybrid technology to its luxury brand

Honda has been in the hybrid game longer than most, but most of its hybrid history has been relatively tempered. But, since the only bull in the hybrid game so far has been Toyota, Honda’s bearishness isn’t really surprising.

In recent years, however, Honda has become far more committed to hybrid technology, and now Honda seems ready to take a page out of the Toyota playbook via by a big push into luxury hybrids. Read more…

Toyota and Honda: LA’s plug-in electric apologists

Toyota electric cars powered by Tesla. Just a gimmick, at least for Toyota?

The winner of this deal is?

Elon Musk with the Tesla-powered Toyota RAV4 EV

Almost disturbing similarities between the Toyota and Honda press conferences yesterday. 13 and 14 years ago both companies produced plug-in electric cars….yadda, yadda, yadda.

So, why are both at least a year behind GM, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Fisker, and a host of other companies in plug-in car production?

Honda's electrification efforts moving beyond just fuel cells

EVs, fuel cells and plug-in hybrids

In recent years Honda has continued to be one of the most outspoken fuel cell vehicle advocates. Nevertheless, Honda has announced that it will show off both a plug-in electric car and a plug-in hybrid car at the LA Auto Show, with both cars hitting the US in 2012.

Unfortunately, not many details are available other than the fact that CEO Takanobu Ito will be on hand in LA for the launch – a first for the LA Show that starts on November 17.

The Honda MPV hybrid minivan?

Is Honda preparing to offer the MPV minivan hybrid?

A sketchy hybrid idea

Taking minivans hybrid

Honda has been awarded a new patent on some sketches that InsideLine believes look very similar to the Skydeck MPV hybrid concept shown at last year’s Tokyo Auto Show, but there is no official word from Honda that plans for such a hybrid have moved beyond the conceptual stage.

Lately Honda’s hybrid vehicles have come up a little short, at least in terms of sales. Could a hybrid minivan reverse that trend?

Honda’s renewed mission to again own fuel economy

For a very long time, Honda has offered the most fuel efficient fleet of vehicles in America. Recently, however, other automakers have moved much closer to matching Honda’s fuel efficiency. In fact, Hyundai even surpassed Honda recently.
