Oxford Study – Electric car revolution will be extremely difficult

A new Oxford study suggests that the electric car revolution will not be easy and consumer behaviour must change to accept electric cars like the EN-V.

GM's EN-V: The key to the plug-in revolution?

Major changes in policy and industry support, plus a much better understanding of consumer behavior needed

While I am a big fan of plug-in cars, I’m a bigger fan of US energy independence, especially finding a way to end OPEC dependence as quickly as possible. In theory, plug-ins offer a great way to overcome this challenge. The real world, on the other hand, is a far more difficult place.

It’s not that plug-ins don’t have an extremely important role to play, it’s just that much more needs to be done — and should have already been done — along the path to the plug-in revolution. Like it or not, however, but the auto industry and policy makers have used plug-ins as an excuse not to do more. And the latest Oxford plug-in study, unfortunately, supports this position. GM’s EN-V could be more important than the Chevy Volt

China could make the EN-V more important than the Chevy Volt

Mainstream electrification could accelerate thanks to the EN-V.

Chinese electrification is a whole different monster

In the next 30 years, the world population is going to increase rather significantly and 80 percent of that growth is going to occur in the 25 largest cities in the world according to recent analysis by BMW . Personal transportation as we know it, simply won’t function in these megacites, and in many major Chinese cities, this urban mobility shift is already underway.

While electrification will undoubtedly be part of this future, just electrification won’t be enough. That’s why in China electric bikes and 3-wheelers are becoming extremely popular, far more popular than conventional electric cars. Consequently, GM’s EN-V could be more necessary and revolutionary than the Chevy Volt. Read more…

I still EN-V GM’s plans for automotive revolution

GM's EN-V, or electric networked vehicle, is the type of concept that could revolutionize the auto industry.

Now that's a more revolutionary box

And I’ll take an electric networked vehicle today

About a decade ago I gave up driving as much as possible. As a result, I pretty much hate driving today, especially urban driving. Actually, it’s not so much the driving that I hate, it’s the congestion and the poor driving habits of many of my fellow Angelenos.

Fortunately, I live in an area of Los Angeles that is well served by public transportation, and the Goldline is today my favorite mode of commuting. But, it’s not always sufficient, and that gives me great hope for ideas like Electric Networked Vehicles, such as GM’s EN-V. Read more…

Electric Chevy Spark coming to the US; EN-V will be a Chevy

In 2013 GM will launch the new Chevy Spark which will eventually include a plug-in version.

Spark lineup will include an electric version.

Could it ignite GM’s plug-in sales?

In 2013 GM will launch the Chevy Spark in the US and eventually the Spark lineup will include a plug-in electric version, although the electric Spark will only be sold in a few US markets, such as California.

There aren’t that many details regarding the new Spark electric; however, the the new EV will be outfitted with a lithium-ion battery pack from A123Systems. Read more…

Urbee hybrid: Need a new car, print one out

The Urbee hybrid car is produced by a revolutionary 3-d printing manufacturing process that could fundamentally change the way autos are mass produced.

The Urbee hybrid concept

Can cheap, safe, and extremely fuel efficient — but very odd — hybrids sell?

It took about 100 years for the world to achieve a fleet of 1 billion cars, but it will only take a couple of decades to add the next billion. Such production is going to be a squeeze on many resources, and the way we commute today simply won’t drive tomorrow. Things must change.

And that’s what makes ideas like GM’s EN-V concept, the Gordon Murray T.27 and the Urbee hybrid noteworthy, even if just conceptually. Read more…

Finally, a bold GM move I can EN-V

According to some reports, GM is going to develop a second generation EN-V transportation pod and begin mass-marketing them by 2020.

The $10,000 solution to high gas prices.

GM looking more and more into the future

I’ve never been much of a GM fan. When it comes to leadership regarding US energy security, GM has used its position as the most important automaker in the world quite poorly. Nevertheless, GM has been showing some signs of change.

Hybrid pickup trucks, the Chevy Volt and a renewed focus on quality fuel efficient small cars have provided hopeful signs in recent years, and now comes word that the EN-V is headed into production. Read more…
