Toyota will use the Frankfurt Auto Show to debut the production ready Prius plug-in

What’s the upcoming Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid going to look like? Probably a lot like the current Prius, especially since Toyota has been showing off pictures of the plug-in on its website, but maybe there could be a few minor surprises.

Regardless, the production ready Prius plug-in is set to debut next month at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

According to Straightline, “The automaker said the Prius PHV will return the equivalent of 107 mpg, with ultra-low CO2 emissions of 49 g/km, and will offer “significantly extended EV driving range for shorter journeys.”"

Unfortunately, I’m guessing that 107 mpg equivalent is based on Europe’s driving cycles, so I’m pretty sure the EPA will offer up a much lower number.

Ultimately, I’m most interested in hearing about trim options. Particularly, will Toyota offer up a plug-in version of a base Prius? To start, I’m sure the answer to that question will be no, but even a mid-trim level could help keep MSRP down, maybe even under $30,000, which seems a pretty critical benchmark in my opinion, particularly since the Prius plug-in will qualify for a much smaller federal tax credit than the current competition.
