Then think Japanese according to the latest research by Edmunds. And if you are interested in a hybrid with the lowest cost of ownership, it’s the Honda Insight.
Overall, according to the researchers at Edmunds, hybrid vehicles – as a segment – do not provide the lowest total cost of ownership, despite the significantly better fuel economy hybrids offer.
True cost of ownership was based upon 5 years of ownership with a particular focus upon depreciation, financing, taxes, fees, insurance premiums, fuel costs, regional variances, maintenance and repairs.
Actually,i’m considering the Honda Insight for as my first hybrid vehicle to buy this year.I advocate zero emission and clean drive but also tight on budget.I think,it’s a perfect choice to have.
Honda Insight is giving an opportunity to own a hybrid at an affordable price.This hybrid is perfect for family used for the space and the fact it’s fuel efficient.Saving money from fuels is a great advantage.

Yeah,i hear about that.It was billed as the cheapest gas electric hybrid on the market,ranked as the top-selling vehicle in Japan last year.
dahcredyns, It’s true that I have learned to changed my driving habits a little – mostly by just keeping a steady foot on the gas peddle. Otherwise I still find myself in the left passing lanes most of the time. LOL, Some old habits are hard to give up. Otherwise I would likely get better than ~49 mgp I get now.
That’s one of my favorite things about hybrid cars, insightful. If you drive a hybrid like a regular car, you’ll still get better fuel economy, much like the EPA’s ratings. However, as you drive a hybrid more and more you begin to understand how you can use its technology as a tool to achieve much better fuel economy than the ratings.
I know I’m not saving the world, but I love the challenge of always trying to figure out how to increase my fuel economy.
Keep pushing those mpg’s!
I typcially get better mpg than the official ratings.
Ultimately, it’s not simple to say ‘blank’ is simply the best hybrid. Driving conditions, needs, deals, etc are all important factors that can vary by region, consumer, etc.

My Civic Hybrid was perfect for my commute. I went from 20 mpg to over 40…
A Prius would have done even better, but I got such a sweet deal on the Civic when gas was under $2.00 that I couldn’t pass it up.
and for someone like me, living in a very congested area, the Prius is going to offer much better fuel economy than what Edmunds is using. i basically drive in optimal conditions for full hybrids.
plus, resale values on the prius are down a bit because of the recall issues. eventually, however, i bet they will lift back up.
still, i don’t want to rain on the parade of insight buyers and fans. this is still good news for them.
44 cents per mile for the Insight and 45 cents for the Prius. If you own more than 5 years, Prius would come out a winner due to higher MPG and resale value.
Insight owner will have to sacrifice interior room, power, and refinement. I think it is a clear. Sales number confirm that most buyers are smart too. Prius has been outselling Insight by 7.5x.
Hybrid Insight is really a hybrid of my choice.Visiting the main honda site i watch the tour and one thing i so much like,the eco assist that helps the driver monitor fuel efficiency.Moreover,estimated 43 mpg,it maximize being fuel efficient,that results to a more environment friendly car.
