Democrats are lazy hypocrites, and Republicans just oxymorons
America, we have an energy problem. It’s called Americans
These days Republicans talk about taxes — as in no new taxes – yet they have no problem buying gas guzzling pickup trucks subsidized with Fed funny money, which is increasing both US debt and foreign oil dependence, while becoming an indirect tax upon America’s future. Similarly, Republicans have no problem creating pollution, causing wars — all things that require massive clean up programs, military spending and, again, result in indirect taxes. Ultimately, Republicans love being the stupid monkey that doesn’t see or hear all the evil around them — that they help create.
But Democrats aren’t much better. In fact, they might even be worse. They yell Union and America, but buy imports. They call cars like the Honda Civic hybrid and the Nissan Leaf two of the most intelligent purchases available in America. They know why you should buy such vehicles. It’s what a real Democrat should do – reduce personal foreign oil dependence and CO2 footprints — but they can’t actually get themselves to pull the trigger. They won’t put their money where their mouths are.
Yet, we wonder why there is an energy problem in America? Hello!? Both parties suck in the real world. It’s all just stupid hypocrisy.
At least that’s my take on the latest Strategic Vision survey, which finds that Republicans love pickup trucks and convertibles, while Democrats like sexy imported cars. Republicans believe pickup trucks are the most sensible purchases. For Democrats it’s hybrid cars and plug-ins.
No wonder Democrats want all kinds of tax credits for plug-in vehicles. They’ll only do the right thing if it’s obviously beneficial to them, not because they believe it’s the right thing. It’s fascism, not altruism. Democrats and socialism? Duh?! They can’t stand up for what they believe unless the government forces them to do it, or makes it personally profitable, immediately.
On the other hand, Republicans don’t want any new tax credits, even for domestic natural gas production — something one would think Republicans could build a platform around, but the illusion of free markets is more important than freedom from OPEC. As if the massive amount of oil imported from Saudi Arabia is the essence of free markets. If you believe that, then maybe its time to start letting the leaders of OPEC run the UN’s human rights division. Free markets? Study the sordid history of the early oil markets and the exploration of Saudi Arabia. This industry was built by robber barons, not free market capitalists. What a fairy tale Republican ideology breeds. Maybe one day they’ll open their eyes and pull their fingers out of their ears.
Nevertheless, Democrats want to blame Republicans. Republicans want to blame Democrats. However, it seems obvious to me that both are a big part of the problem. Maybe the only real solution is dumping both Democrats and Republicans.

This article was obviously written by a high school graduate who gets paid by the word rather than the value of its content.
All of us are aware of corporate greed, self interests of parties, politicians, the author of this article and individuals like myself. The key is to research how to raise the average Americans conscious to see why energy savings benefits everyone and to vote with their cash, and to talk about SOLUTIONS that are realistic, rather than blathering about generalities – which only continue to polarize.
Smurf – I don’t disagree with the problems and inequities you illustrate.
but at the end of the day… we cannot be spending more than we take in.
You are correct in that taxing has shifted to the lower income folks and the rich have successfully evaded their fair share of the taxes.
I know where you are coming from.. but we have to fix the problems or we are headed for political gridlock where each side is waiting until “their guy” takes over and I just don’t think that’s going to happen – for either side.
The right wing has gotten very good at propaganda and straight up disinformation that a lot of people believe and vote accordingly.
It’s pretty bad when the country is guided by lies and disinformation.
Larry,
I called myself a fiscal conservative in the 1990′s.
But at the same time I watched and learned….
- 20 years of seeing how lower taxes for the rich, and tax loopholes have created bigger deficits
- 20 years of seeing how letting the “private sector” fix health care has made health care worse than ever.
- 20 years of seeing no energy policies other than “drill baby drill” leading to an increase in foreign oil dependence, and no real progress on alternative energy
- 20 years of seeing tax incentives for creating jobs overseas leading to less jobs at home
- 20 years of the erosion of workers benefits for union and non-union companies
Needless to say, after 20 years of seeing this happen, I’m not a fiscal conservative any more….
Smurf… I consider myself a fiscal conservative but liberal of social issues.
I don’t really like subsidies or incentives but my main argument here has been to urge all of us to recognize the truth about the two parties and their respective energy parties without getting into pro or anti Obama or Dems or GOP.
The truth is that the GOP pretty much hates credits for hybrids and green technology in general. I don’t say that as a partisan but simply as a observation of the reality.
The GOP is pretty much oriented to fossil fuels and pretty much opposed to the govt attempting to pick technology winners or losers nor to use taxpayer money to encourage it.
Again.. I’m just trying to be honest about the reality.
If someone things the GOP is more accepting or supporting of Hybrids or Green technologies… speak up!
I agree Larry.
The change that was voted for in 2008 had a real shot at occurring if Dems had retained control in 2010. 2 years is not much time, especially when most of that 2 years was spent on health care.
Unfortunately, the Republican strategy of stonewalling all change and blaming Democrats worked very successfully, and they took over the house. That pretty much put a stop to all change.
You are spot on that if you want politicians who will support hybrids,EV’s etc. you must vote Democrat.
For those trying to fool themselves claiming to be Independent, that may help you sleep at night, but it won’t do anything to help the progress of hybrids, EV’s or any alternative energy. Only voting Democrat will do that.

re: ” They won’t put their money where their mouths are”
Democratic legislation never makes it out of the GOP House.
It’s not that they don’t try but even if they manage to get it into legislation it gets creamed on the house floor.
you can’t pass legislation if the other side won’t vote for it.
so I don’t think calling the Dem Hypocrites for not getting legislation passed is a fair criticism.
and remember this – the reason the House of Representatives is controlled by the GOP – is US.
the majority of Americans DID vote a Republican majority in Congress.
Finally.. Democrats LOVE Hybrids and the GOP hates them.
The Dems, if they could get legislation passed would further incentivize hybrids and put more money on R&D for battery technology.
The GOP opposes all of this and will stop any legislation that tries to do it.
So Dach.. you gotta be a little more truthful here.
You know in your heart that the GOP opposes much of what you say you support but apparently you cannot reconcile yourself to accept that reality.
If you truly want more support from Congress on Hybrids and the like – in your home district, you have to vote Dem rather than GOP.
Every time you vote for a GOP person.. no matter how nice they seem or what they tell you, when push comes to shove up in Congress… all the GOP herds up together and votes the same way because they consider their so-called party principles more important than representing the folks who elect them.
we can’t change until we ourselves recognize why change is not happening and it’s because over and over…too many of us actually vote for the local GOP candidates and they go right up to Washington to play more gridlock politics.
truth.
so Slavery was the ORIGINAL GREEN energy saver?
sorry…could not resist…

Americans tend to be judgmental and react to the vices of others. Smoking, drinking, drugs, prostitution, … (notice all are taxed or illegal). The only way to shed the proper light on energy over-consumption is by showing it to be a vice, based on greed, vanity, and not caring about future generations. That opens the door to properly taxing energy to perhaps curb/control its consumption. A steep and slippery slope, not doubt, but I believe accurate. Keep in mind that slavery was once legal and abundant. It also was about providing energy in the South while the North used combustible materials (wood, whale oil, …). Ultimately it took war to address what was essentially personal differences in compassion for other people, greed, and deeply held beliefs over essentially energy that drove economies. So essentially future generations are slaves to our current fossil fuel dependence.

I can only offer one solution.
LEAD BY EXAMPLE
We that are passionate about these vehicles must go out and buy them and demonstrate how great they really are to the rest of America….
