Chevy Volt named North American Car of the Year
The year of the Volt
Today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit GM’s Chevy Volt won the North American Car of the Year, one of several top automotive awards the Volt has picked up this auto season.
The Ford Explorer won Truck of the Year.
Now the real work begins. While the Volt is a great car for awards, when will it be a great car for sales? For instance, the Ford Explorer starts at $30,000, while the Chevy Volt starts at $41,000. While tax credits make the Volt more viable, very serious cost reductions are still needed.
Nonetheless, for now, the Volt is still a great purchase for those committed to ending their personal foreign oil footprint.
