Coda plug-in electric

An electric car that just might not be up to Coda

The Coda electric car falls far short according to a recent NYTimes review.

The dull lighting at Coda’s LA debut was sadly fitting

NY Times thrashes EV startup

During press days of auto shows like the one in LA, journalists are often given an opportunity to drive many of the green vehicles on display. Unfortunately, there is limited time, so one has to choose carefully.

One electric car that has just never tempted me at these drives was the Coda, and after reading a recent NYTimes review of the 2012 Coda, I think I made a wise decision. Read more…

Coda will offer most affordable EV around 2014

In just two years Coda will begin producing the most affordable electric car in America.

Coda makes huge EV promise

Prices similar to a conventional gas-guzzler

Around mid-2014 Coda will begin assembling electric cars, sub-assembled by China’s Great Wall Motors, that Coda promises will result in the “most affordable EV on the market.”

Still, there are some red flags in this project, such as the fact that Great Wall Motors has not yet even built an electric car. Read more…

Coda delivers first EVs: Offers fair plug-in sales forecast

I'm not sure that Coda electric cars will survive into the future, but I respect Coda's opinions and forecasts for the future of plug-in electric car space.

Code hopes to average 1000 sales per month by December

We live in a world driven by hype and superficial materialism — at least in the US — and it drives me crazy, especially when automakers use hype and halo effects to fight issues like foreign oil dependence. It’s practically treasonous in my zealous opinion.

Thus, I was a little refreshed to learn of EV maker Coda’s beliefs on potential plug-in electric car sales. While a little optimistic, at least they’re reasonable. Read more…

Want to test a plug-in? Think Enterprise

Want to test out a plug-in vehicle, such as the Chevy Volt or the Nissan Leaf, before buying. Think Enterprise.

On the fence with a Leaf purchase? Rent one for a few days.

Largest plug-in car fleet in California

Many years ago, when the Toyota Prius was just in its second generation, many potential Prius consumers just weren’t sure what they thought about hybrids. Back in those days I often used to recommend renting a Prius, or another hybrid, for a few days to test the vehicle out.

Fortunately, Enterprise is quickly ramping up its plug-in fleet, giving potential consumers a great way to put a plug-in through the paces of their daily life before making a purchase. Read more…

Why is the Coda electric so much more expensive than the Nissan Leaf?

It's hard to make sense of the Coda electric car. Yes, the Coda offers more electric range than the Nissan Leaf, but in a package that just doesn't add much sizzle for buyers.

Subsidies, scale, range, accounting shenanigans?

There has been a lot of hype in the green press regarding the Coda plug-in electric vehicle the last few days that has, frankly, been both surprising and annoying.

I mean, kudos to the Coda team for putting rubber to the road, but the story is DOA at $44,900, particularly for something this bland. Read more…
