Fuel economy: Is it you or is your hybrid a dud?

Hybrid fuel economy. When is the problem the hybrid car, and when is the problem you?

Is it a hybrid dud, or is it you?

Finding blame for bad hybrid fuel economy

Drive a hybrid just like any other vehicle, and it will usually still achieve considerably better fuel economy than a similar conventional vehicle, especially in city conditions. However, smart hybrid drivers can often significantly increase their hybrid’s fuel economy by letting a hybrid be a hybrid.

Still, when fuel economy comes up short, when is the problem the hybrid, not the driver? And when is it the driver, not the hybrid? Read more…

Cheaper hybrids soon?

Since 1997 Toyota has sold more than 2.68 million hybrid vehicles. However, by early this decade, Toyota expects cumulative hybrid sales to top 5 million hybrid cars as the automaker moves towards selling 1 million hybrids per year by at least 2015.

Toyota hybrid patent suit over

Paice lawsuite against Toyota hybrid cars now over.

Import block potential over

No stop for Toyota hybrids now.

The Paice LLC patent lawsuit against Toyota hybrid cars is now over.

Paice and Toyota agreed that they have shared parts, but that Toyota developed its parts independently from Paice, and all lawsuits have been dismissed. Consequently, any potential import block is now officially over.

Intended acceleration: Toyota hybrids were always safe?

A new report suggests that many unintended acceleration cases in Toyota hybrid cars were due to driver error?

A real danger or just a distraction?

Did the government assume too much?

“The Department of Transportation has analyzed a sampling of dozens of black boxes in Toyota vehicles involved in accidents blamed on unintended acceleration, finding the throttles were open and the brakes were not engaged,” the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

Consequently, it seems – at least thus far – that driver error has been the root of at least much of the unintended acceleration scandal that has plagued Toyota for many months now. Ironically, the findings are similar to the government’s conclusions in 1989’s Audi 5000 study. Read more…

Escape hybrid most fuel efficient SUV/crossover

The Ford Escape hybrid is the most fuel efficient SUV or crossover according to Edmunds.com

32 mpg on average

Let’s talk real world fuel economy

I have to say that I’m really pleased that GM fired its old ad agency, while realigning its marketing department.

“Ending an era renowned more for overpromising market success and then chronically under-delivering,” according to Daniel Howes of the DetroitNews, was simply overdue.

Case in point, GM’s commercials regarding how the Chevy Equinox is more fuel efficient than the competition.

Not in the real world. Not even close. In the real world the Ford Escape hybrid blows away the Equinox, as well as most of the other competition in the SUV/crossover space. Read more…
