Cheaper compact hybrids coming from Honda

Honda's future includes cheaper compact=

Hybrids the key to Honda

More mid-sized Honda hybrids also coming

While the idea of world cars seems to be gaining traction in the auto industry as a way to scale down costs, meeting regional demands is still going to require regional products according to Honda. Hence, while cars like the Fit will be sold in several different markets, the next-gen Fit will be developed “at each R&D base in the world’s six regions simultaneously” to ensure a proper fit for each each market.

Likewise, cheaper hybrids will also be a bigger part of the formula. Read more…

2012 Honda Insight: Still Honda’s best hybrid

The 2012 Honda Insight will offer a few new looks, better aerodynamics and rear end visibility, plus better fuel economy, making the Insight hybrid Honda's best hybrid offering, at least in the US.

Honda's best US hybrid is getting better

At least in the US

Last week Honda teased a new picture and a few new details regarding its upcoming 2012 Honda Insight, at least the European version, although it is very likely most of these updates will also make it to the US.

While the changes aren’t significant, they should help resolve a few critical Insight issues, and keep the Insight positioned as Honda’s best hybrid offering in the US. Read more…

Another Honda hybrid un-Fit for the US

The best hybrid car that Honda makes is the Fit hybrid according to most experts, and now Honda has raised the hybrid bar with the larger Fit Shuttle hybrid. Unfortunately, there are not yet any plans to bring either Fit hybrid to the US.

When will Honda bring its best hybrids to the US?

Shuttle another Fit hybrid not coming to America, at least for now

Attack of the small hybrids: Toyota Yaris hybrid to debut in Geneva

The Toyota Yaris hybrid is heading to the Geneva Motor Show ushering in a new era of smaller, cheaper hybrid cars. Can these new hybrids challenge the Prius, as is already occurring in Japan, in the US? Gen Y'ers will probably be the key to the question.

Teaser of the Toyota Yaris hybrid.

But is the Yaris hybrid coming to the US?

When it comes to urban transportation I’m a fan of small cars, and making small hybrids makes a ton of sense since urban transportation is full of congestion, streetlights and stop signs. Likewise, small hybrids mean smaller price tags and if battery-powered vehicles are ever going to truly mainstream, cheaper prices will be critical.

Thus, the upcoming launch of the Toyota Yaris hybrid at the Geneva Auto Show is an noteworthy debut, but one that also begs a number of interesting questions. Read more…

Hybrid sales: The Toyota Prius can be beat

The Fit EV will make it to the US, but not the Fit hybrid, at least for now, despit the fact that the Fit hybrid is outselling the Prius hybrid in Japan.

Wouldn't both the EV and hybrid versions work in the US?

Too bad Honda’s latest hybrid isn’t fit for the US

In the US the Toyota Prius accounts for about half of all hybrid sales. Even in Japan the Prius has crushed yearly sale’s records.

Yet, last month the Prius wasn’t the top selling hybrid in Japan. Read more…

Honda Fit hybrid inevitable for the US

Gas, hybrid or plug-in. That is turning into the powertrain trend of the future. Thus, the Honda Fit hybrid belongs in the US. So, what's the hold up?

Just gas or electric? Why not also hybrid?

Gas, hybrid or electric?

There is a trend emerging in the auto industry and it’s being built around options. For instance, sometime in 2012 the Ford Focus should come in gas, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric versions. And it isn’t just Ford playing this game, but Mitsubishi, Toyota and Lexus have indicated similar plans, while recent moves by GM indicate concurrent thinking.

Thus, if Honda is going to sell the Fit gas and electric versions in the US, why not the hybrid version – since it already produces one – especially considering that most have called it Honda’s most solid hybrid offering yet. And considering Honda’s hybrid woes as of late, a solid hybrid hit might drive some positive mojo. Read more…

Honda’s new hybrid a good Fit for the US

The Honda Fit is the second best selling car in Japan, where Honda sells all its other hybrids. Thus, if it works in Japan, it works in the US.

Hybrids all about Japan, not US?

Honda needs some new US hybrid mojo

The $19,000 Honda Fit hybrid has been launched as the cheapest hybrid in Japan where sales of hybrid cars dwarf US sales thanks to tax incentives and, until recently, subsidies. Still, the conventional Fit is the second best selling vehicle in Japan.

If Honda can afford to cannibalize Fit and Insight hybrid sales in Japan with the Fit hybrid, why not in the US? Read more…

Honda Fit hybrid more fuel efficient than the Prius

The Honda Fit hybrid will achieve a combined 54 mpg in the US while costing less than the Toyota Prius.

Cheaper and more fuel efficient than the Prius.

Bring this hybrid to the US

According to MotorTrend, if the Honda Fit hybrid – known as the Jazz in Europe – came to the US, it would achieve a combined 53.5 mpg. That’s better than the Toyota Prius.

So, why hasn’t Honda committed to bringing the Fit hybrid to this side of the pond? Read more…
