A closer look at the Infiniti M35 hybrid, Nissan’s hybrid future
Driving in a new hybrid direction
While the new lithium-powered Infiniti M35 hybrid won’t hit the US market until early next year, it’s Japanese version is set to go on sale early next month.
Compared to the conventional version, the M35 hybrid will double fuel economy, achieving 45 mpg according to Japanese fuel economy standards – US numbers have not been released. However, the most interesting hybrid number might be the M35’s hybrid price.
At $72,000 the Infiniti M35 hybrid will cost almost $20,000 more than its conventional counterpart. Ouch. Still, the hybrid version of the M35 promises “the highest quality drive” according to Nissan.
While the M35 hybrid will be the first to feature Nissan’s new proprietary hybrid drive, other Nissan hybrids are expected, including smaller hybrid cars, according to reports, but Nissan is not yet offering any further details. Nonetheless, probably the most telling aspect of this new hybrid drive will be how quickly it replaces the Toyota hybrid drive now found in the Nissan Altima hybrid.
