HK Motors to develop natural gas hybrids
An HK conceptI'm still not sure that I believe Hybrid Kinetics Motor Company will be around in 5 years, however, if everything goes as expected, HK will begin producing a family of natural gas hybrid vehicles in 2013 at it's Alabama manufacturing facility.
In partnership with the American Public Gas Association (APGA) and NGVAmerica, HK hopes to develop a new natural gas infrastructure, while lobbying the government to pass the The NAT GAS Act of 2009.

I don't think much of their concept car but the infrastructure is already in place if they use standard propane tanks.
A "fillup" will take about as much time as it takes to swap out a tank for the old barbecue grill - and if they use two tanks - then when the first goes, dry -you switch over and go shopping for a replacement.
People could keep spares at their homes.
I think this is a much better idea that gasoline hybrids while we wait for the battery technology to mature.
We have LOTS of Natural Gas and yes.. while there are some concerns - not option is without it's flaws - including batteries and if you're after less dependence on foreign oil - why not this path?
The car design though is a bit too harsh for my taste.
The idea sounds ok, lets see if they can get in done in 2013 :)
@Shortlease Advisor,
R8 anyone...?
I think this is a pure concept. It's meant to show design ideas, not an actual design - at least that's what I'm hoping.
Anyway, while I agree with the need to fully take advantage of natural gas - as long as water issues can be mitigated well enough - I'm not sure I agree with the propane analogy, Larry.
It's not that it doesn't make sense, it's just that it's not what consumers are used to, and consumers are fickle.
In order for natural gas to work, it pretty much has to work just like gasoline in terms of the fill up, at least that's my extrapolation based upon semi-related studies. Unfortunately, that is simply what consumers will demand.
