Lithium-powered Honda hybrids on the way
Can lithium challenge the Prius? In February, Toyota sold more than 27,000 Prius hybrids worldwide. Honda sold 3,517 Insight hybrids.
To help shrink this gap in sales, Honda plans to begin using lithium-ion batteries in its hybrid cars within 2 or 3 years, according to Bloomberg, and the Civic hybrid will probably be the first lithium hybrid.

I hope this leads to "after market" batteries for today's generation of hybrids.
When the warranties expire on today's hybrids, people are going to be looking for improved, and hopefully lower cost batteries....
I do to, but there seems to be contradictory evidence on this issue, with some predicting utilities might suck up any glut in battery production.
Yet, if volume is the key to lithium battery market success, then it would seem a glut is inevitable within the next 4 - 7 years.
