GM not done with hybrid pickup trucks yet
Production will still be limited howeverWhile companies like Chrysler have decided that hybrid pickup trucks are not financially worth pursuing, GM will continue to build full-sized hybrid trucks and SUVs; nonetheless, hybrid technology will not be GM's key technology for meeting future CAFE requirements according to Jeff Luke, chief engineer for General Motors’ full-size trucks.
Instead, GM will focus on aerodynamics, mass and tires as the best ways to improve fuel economy.

I wouldve thought that GM would've learned their lesson by now. People who want a truck want it for the power, they know they're gonna pay more for gas than a regular sedan. Heres an idea, lower the production run on pick-ups to meet the actual demand and problem solved.

Wasn't some of that covered under the latest VEBA contract?
How about adding some smaller pickups in the mix?
Put hybrid technology into a small pickup and it will get 40 mpg.
For those that need a pickup, but don't need all the towing capacity, this might be an attractive solution.
I totally agree. A small Ford truck, for instance, could probably use exactly the same powertrain as the Escape hybrid.
Likewise there have been some interesting unibody hybrid truck concepts in the last few years. Toyota was close to going into production and I'll bet that once gas prices hit a sustained $4.00, that concept will re-emerge.
People over here are loving the new Chevy hybrids. There's definitely a market for it
