Auris hybrid more efficient than Prius. Cheaper?
Is it just about styling? When the new Toyota Auris hybrid goes on sale in Europe, it will be even more efficient than the Toyota Prius. The third generation Prius rates at 72.4 mpg on the European cycle, while the new Auris hybrid achieves between 70.6 mpg - 74.3 mpg, dependent upon options according to MotorTrend. Thus, at best, the difference in fuel economy between these two Toyota hybrid cars is not staggering, especially once downsized by the US's EPA cycle.
So, what's the point of the Auris? European styling? More cost-effective fuel efficiency? A combination of both? I guess we'll find out soon.

I like the look of the Auris better than the Prius... less funky more traditional...
this is actually a critical issue if you want hybrids to become mainstream.
All these "concept" cars are not going anywhere with the vast majority of the public who are not particularly innovative in their style expectations...
i agree that styling will be important to mass-adoption, but for this class of car in america, i think the auris is irrelevant, unless a few grand cheaper than the Prius.
