Only $5.00 gas can fight foreign oil dependence
Americans don't want small carsSurprise, surprise. New analysis demonstrates that since 2008 small car interest has decreased significantly as SUV interest has increased. Even the recent run up in gas prices could not reverse this trend.
Unless gas prices hit $5.00, foreign oil dependence is here to stay for a very, very long time.

With that being said, we have two choices:
1. Artificially raise gas prices via taxes, tarifs, etc.
2. Learn to live with foreign oil dependency and deal with the problem when the oil runs out.
I know many folks say that lower income families will be hardest hit by a gas tax increase......
I say the blow to the lower income families will be even more devastating should we reach the point when the oil runs out and we haven't developed alternatives yet.
our society is just so embedded in the cheap oil complex.
still, if gas prices hit $5.00 per gallon, big vehicles would disappear. safety would be easier to ensure, making smaller vehicles far safer, and lighter, which could make them cheaper and more fuel efficient without added costs.
at some point in time we have to bite the foreign oil bullet. one way or another we will have to act. do we want to be proactive or reactive?
do you wait for a heart attack to start eating healthy, or do you start eating healthy to avoid a heart attack?

Well, expensive gasoline would get people off the hook of SUVs.
$5.00 price for gas will happen sooner than later. We dont have to wait for that price. We need to take actions to conserve fuel before its too late.
And hybrid cars could help a lot in minimizing fuel consumption.
