2011 VW Touareg set to come in hybrid option
VW's first hybrid coming to America later this yearVolkswagen, in cooperation with Porsche, is set to launch its first ever production hybrid and it will hit American showrooms later this year.
Using an Audi-built supercharged 3.0-liter V6 mated to a battery-powered electric motor, the new Touareg can achieve 380 hp and accelerate from 0 - 62 in 6.5 seconds. More important, however, the new NiMH-powered Touareg will be a full hybrid that can travel purely on electric power up to 30 mph. This full hybrid capability is expected to make the Touareg hybrid about 17 percent more fuel efficient than similarly-sized SUVs and up to 25 percent more fuel efficient in city driving.

Meh! I know you are just reporting "hybrid news" but should I really care if a car company that has a history of making fun of hybrids & went as far as running an ad during the Superbowl that made fun of the green police?
no you don't have to care about them.
i'm not sure about them myself, but
at least they've realized they have to get into the hybrid space and they are finally getting there.
if its going to get done right german engineering is hybrids best chance at survival.a car that looks good ,quick takeoff, and an audi built engine.
this is a vehicle that the masses would accept.
all three names audi, porsche, and volkswagon have been building fuel efficient cars for decades.
look at the DAKAR 2010 race results and you will see volkswagons rugged dependable status.
i hope you are right.
