Toyota Prius: Top selling vehicle in Japan in 2009
Japan goes greenWhile hybrid cars only make up about 2.8 percent of US new vehicle market share, they make up 10 percent of market share in Japan.
In 2009, the Toyota Prius was the top selling vehicle in Japan, where Toyota sold 208,876 of the hybrids.
The Honda Insight was the fifth best selling vehicle in Japan last year, selling 93,283 units.

The Toyota Prius has consistently earned much better than averageā reliability ratings according to Kelly Blue Book. Thus, the average Prius retains 40 percent of its value after 5 years compared to the average car, which only retains 20 to 20 percent of its value.
Not only that, its been a customer survey favorite almost its entire existence. Over the last decade around 90 percent of Prius owners have indicated they would buy another Prius.
