Honda CR-Z: A smooth, but not fast, hybrid with great handling
1 second faster than the Prius to 60Some Japanese reporters were able to take the upcoming Honda CR-Z hybrid for a spin, and Edmunds has translated the article into English.
Ultimately, the CR-Z wasn't slow, but not quite as fast as expected, although the reporters were impressed with how smoothly the CR-Z hybrid slips into cruising speed.
On the other, handling was superb and "worthy of the sporty-car label".

People have become so jaded with performance figures that they feel they want cars faster than they really need. 0-60 in 9 seconds is PLENTY fast for the road.
As I said before, cars fill peoples' inadequacies. And automakers know this. Otherwise, there simply is no reason for a standard car today to have to have 350HP and get to 60 on under 6 seconds. It serves no purpose other than make some wannabe feel good about themselves.
My 1987 GTI was a 9.5 second car and it was the most fun car I've ever owned to date.
I totally agree Noz.
We've been marketed - duped - via decades of well-researched, manipulated and well financed advertising that has turned us into consumptive zombies living through our possessions.
We, as consumers need to take responsibility with acting like lemings, jumping off a cliff, followng the pied piper. We have brains. We need to use them instead of relying on a warm fuzzy feeling. We have ALLOWED ourselves to be duped. I think you would agree that we share in the blame of being duped. That being said, I had high hopes for th CR-Z. But quite honestly, I'm at the point that I might be more inclined to buy a "not so sporty" Ford Focus Hybrid. It's a good looking car, gets respectable gas mileage, and is more versatile in terms of cargo and passenger capacity than the CR-Z. Sporty looks is all the CR-Z has over the Ford Focus. That's my opinion anyway.
I absolutely believe, Robby-d, that we share in the blame and allowed - and continue to allow - ourselves to be duped.
BTW, I meant the Ford Fusion, not the Focus. I get my F words mixed up sometimes. ;-}
i figured since i've not heard any official reports on a launch date for the focus hybrid, which was a plan at one time.
i wish ford would make a focus hybrid, or at least a focus-sized hybrid.
