Buying a used hybrid at CarMax
Forget the dealership? Most people don't like buying cars. Dealerships seem to have every angle covered to ensure that the final deal favors them more than the consumer. Often, the situation seems even worse when buying used cars.
So, my friend Mary is looking for a used Toyota Prius, and she thinks she's found a good deal on one at CarMax, but she's a little unsure of buying a used hybrid from CarMax. Ultimately, Mary wonders whether CarMax has the knowledge to truly assess the condition of her potential new Prius.
Any CarMax hybrid stories out there?

a quick scan in the middle Atlantic midway between Washington and Richmond brought up about 39 within a 250 mile radius.
I see quite few cars (all kinds) locally with Carmax labels on them.
My only advice is to be sure to check the value at Edmunds or similar.
One more.. don't get fallin love/get locked in on one car... the salesman will key off of this to your disadvantage.
You've got to be willing to walk away if the deal is not right... there are plenty of them out there...
Good points.
Ultimately, Mary's real concern is whether CarMax has the ability to test the Hybrid Synergy Drive of her potential Prius to make sure everything is in perfect order.
I know there are hybrid mechanic classes emerging, but what are the chances a CarMax mechanic has taken such a course, has enough experience working with such vehicles?
I just don't know, and I didn't know what kind of advice to give her. I have to admit that I would be slightly leery about buying a hybrid from someone that doesn't have great experience working with hybrids.
