A few new details on the Honda CR-Z hybrid
The production version of the CR-Z hybrid?A Japanese Honda CR-Z hybrid brochure has apparently leaked onto the Internet. According to the brochure, the CR-Z hybrid will go from 0 - 62 in about 9.7 seconds.
Additionally, MotorTrend speculates that the CR-Z hybrid will be slightly less fuel efficient than the Honda Insight due to "a little more displacement".

9.7 is not a sports cars. It is even about second slower than Camry Hybrid.
I agree, LB. Of course, if closely based off the technology in the Insight, one couldn't expect too much.
Still, this vehicle is probably going to come in a manual version, much like the original Insight. That might provide the feeling of greater low speed power.
The 0-60 doesn't tell the whole story on performance with a hybrid. A hybrid "feels" way more powerful than it's torque, hp and 0-60 numbers...
My Civic Hybrid is rated at 0-60 in 11.8 seconds, but I find that the car has significant "short-burst" acceleration due to the instant torque from the electric motor. It has what I call "break away" speed.
It has very good "passing" acceleration.
It doesn't feel like a V-8 muscle car, but, then again, it doesn't feel like a 4-cylinder "rice burner" either.
The CR-Z will be smaller and lighter. With the package being similar to an Insight, I would expect the performance to feel pretty good.
Those are good points, smurf. Hybrids often offer practical acceleration.
Sure that isn't enough for horsepower freaks, but I think that the CR-Z will offer a nice zip for hybrid fans interested in bit more sporty look.
For instance, a lot of people buy the Solara instead of a Camry for the sporty coupe look, rather than a big increase in horsepower.
A. Honda must be taking lessons from GM on how to introduce a new car. By the time the CR-Z comes out, other car companies may have similar cars coming into the market.
B. The most appealing two aspects of the CR-Z are its sporty looks and its mpg. Loose the manual transmission only. It's not a performance or sports car as pointed out by other posts.
C. I'd only buy it if it came with an automatic transmission.
D. I've become very disappointed with how Honda has handled the design of the amenities and comfort level of the Insight. I fear they will do the same with the CR-Z. Times have changed and what people want in a sporty looking car have changed since the CR-X.
F. All of this coming from someon who has owned only Hondas for almost 20 years.

i'm with you on feeling a little underwhelmed with Honda, especially with regards to their hybrids.
