2010: The big questions
The rubber finally hits the road2010. Here we come.
While 2010 isn't going to be quite as significant for the hybrid market as I would have expected a few years ago, there are a few interesting stories developing:
1.) Will any hybrid, aside from the Prius, sell 50,000 units in one year?
2.) Can the Honda CR-Z hybrid reinvigorate Honda's hybrid sales?
3.) Will the Hyundai Sonata hybrid make it to America, and how will the Sonata hybrid compare to the Toyota Camry hybrid and the Ford Fusion hybrid in terms of price and fuel economy?
4.) What will be Toyota's next dedicated hybrid, and how many other hybrids will Toyota announce, debut, etc?
5.) Finally, after years of hype the Chevy Volt will go on sale. How many units will GM produce in 2010? Will there be any delays? Final pricing, options?

Happy New Year Dach.
Good questions. On #1, you mean this year right? Certainly we will see many hybrid models selling 50K plus units in the near future. Also, I'd add question 6) Will the Fisker Karma deliveries start in 2010 and the company emerge as a legitimate new player who's sole existence is based upon a game changing automotive architecture?
Happy New year everyone!!!
Another good question:
Who will win the auto X-prize, and will that competition lead to mass production of 100 mpg vehicles in the near future?
Happy New Year!
EI - For question #1 it won't happen in 2009 for any other hybrid except the Prius. I'm not sure it will happen in 2010 either, unfortunately.
In 2009, only Toyota will sell more than 50,000 total hybrids for the year. Ford will probably be second at 30-something thousand, 40 if they are lucky.
Will that change in 2010? I doubt it.
Also, I like both suggested questions.
I thought about adding the Karma story, but the Karma is sold out through 2010 and production will be limited. For me, the Fisker story will really get interesting in 2011 - if it is to get interesting.
The X-Prize - that just slipped my mind, but I'll definitely keep my eye on that one.
