The Toyota Sienna hybrid minivan
Would it sell?Over the years the question of hybrid minivans has often come up. If hybrid vehicles are to go mainstream then segments like minivans, many have argued, are essential for a hybrid option.
Last week, while announcing that a new, totally redesigned Toyota Sienna minivan would make its world debut at the LA Auto Show, Toyota hinted that there would be a fuel efficiency surprise.
Certainly, that doesn't mean that the Sienna will finally come with a Hybrid Synergy Drive option, but what if it does?
Today, the base Sienna lists for about the same price as the base Highlander. The Highlander hybrid, however, starts at almost $10,000 more. Of course, the Highlander hybrid offers a lot more features than a base Highlander.
Still, if the hybrid version of the Sienna could list for just an extra $5000 - about $30,000 - would it sell?

The hybrid Sienna has been available in Japan for a few years now. Even if it sold in limited numbers here wouldn't it be worth it since they are building them already?
I have a 2002 Toyota Sienna and am waiting for a hybrid to come on the market to replace it. I don't think that I am alone. The answer is yes, it would sell.
I believe a hybrid minivan with all wheel drive capable of 40mpg or more, seating 6 "normal" sized people would sell very well if it could also convert to carry large bulk items. Although I haven't seen the Esteema, it would seem to fill the bill. Let's get it in the USA!!
I have a 2003 Sienna, and I bought it specifically to trade up to the hybrid! Get off your A**, Toyota, bofore Honda beats you to the punch! WOuld it sell?--DUH!!!
but how much of a premium could you sell a hybrid minivan for?
would you pay an extra $5000?
