Prius coupe a done deal?
A past Toyota hybrid coupe conceptFor years now Toyota has brought up the possibility of expanding the Prius brand, and one such possibility that has been tossed around is a hybrid sports coupe. Toyota even showed off a hybrid coupe concept at the North American Auto Show in 2007.
According to rumors, however, this new sporty Prius is a done deal. Toyota has "been in touch with Italian designers, namely Carrozzeria and Italdesign," and the new Prius coupe will probably debut at the next Tokyo Motor Show.

Is this due to the fact that Honda is also releasing a Hybrid coupe?
Once again. Competition is a good thing.
Perhaps all of this competition will rub off on the American companies?

when toyota debuted the ft-hs concept in 2007 they indicated they would build it if there was interest in the vehicle, and the idea has come up a couple of times since then.
with honda moving in this direction, why not make this concept a reality, especially as a prius spin-off?
and, i'll definitely keep hoping this competition rubs off on the Big 3.
in fact, the ford reflex hybrid was a similar idea, so there is some potential.
