Aptera production delayed, founders gone
Dependent upon government loans? The unique Aptera 2e might never be built.
At least 10 workers have been laid off. One founder is gone. The other might come back some time next year - might - according to reports.
Without doubt, production will not happen this year. Instead production has been pushed back into 2010, but without a cash infusion, it seems Aptera might be done.
Thus, Apera's future looks almost completely dependent upon whether the government wants to risk a clean energy loan on the California plug-in maker.
I say the government has already made much larger and far riskier bets, so why not?

I hope they go through with the loan cause out of all the companies getting loans this one would of been my first choice!
I also hope they get the loan. The vehicle is just to innovative to let die.
I just know someone else here is going to call me crazy because of this statement but that's o.k. I think the darn thing looks hot.

Smelling a bit like Tucker ...
They have 4000 potential customers that have already put down a small deposit. If they can put forth a business plan based on this potential, etc., I think that's worthy of the risk.
The government is going to spend the money one way or another, and I'm sure the amount given to Aptera would be relatively minor compared to most of the other loans being doled out for the other small players applying for loans.
It's one of the most out-of-the-box ideas out there, I'd love to see it tested in the real world.
Do you REALLY think the Big 3 will let these guys get this money?
Not gonna happen. I'm curious to see who's on the board that seems to have scared off the founders.
I'm looking forward to the Tucker-esque film of their rise and fall in 20 years or so ...
GM did try to lobby, unsuccessfully, against a rule change that made Aptera eligible for such loans. So, you're definitely barking up the right tree to some extent.
I don't know much about the Aptera board, but its an interesting point.
The more things change, the more they stay the same?
