Batteries to be "core" Nissan business
Nissan's Infiniti M hybridNissan is making rechargeable batteries a "core business" for its long term plans.
"The electric car is going to be a long-term bet, a long-term investment," Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn told a news conference ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show.
"If you want to go for the electric car, or even for the fuel-cell car, the heart of the system is the battery," Ghosn said.

Is it me, or does it seem that the level of committment to hybrids and EV's is so much higher with the Japanese car makers?
They're going to leave us in a cloud of dust.....
perhaps the American companies are keeping their powder dry.
ha ha ha
well, so far nissan is more talk than walk, so i'm taking this with a grain of sand.
likewise, gm, via the volt, is trying to get into the battery game.
still, the only company with any real battery success is toyota.
until a few others bring out the products in prius-like numbers, it's all just hype to me.
that being said, asia still seems far ahead of us automakers at every level of the battery game.
