Is the Toyota Prius irrelevant?
Is the Camry hybrid the ultimate barometer?Toyota is now ramping up its lobbying efforts in Japan hoping to extend tax credits for environmentally-friendly cars, particularly hybrid cars, for another two years. Thus far these credits have pushed the Toyota Prius to the top of the sales list in Japan. Yet, what would Prius sales be without these tax credits?
Likewise, despite the fact the Prius was a top ten cash for clunker seller, the Prius still did not crack the 10 best selling vehicles list for August.
Until Camry hybrid sales outperform conventional Camry sales, for instance, aren't hybrid cars and the Toyota Prius basically irrelevant?

It's a good question. Do you think that the guy who would buy a Hybrid Camry (or Corolla) would just as likely buy a Prius?
I think they are different buyers.
No. Thats stupid. There's just not a big market in the U.S. for hybrids...
Until their production capacity for the hybrid drivetrain is high enough, it couldn't happen anyway. Even if they would sell (I assume the real crux of your question) I don't believe they couldn't make that many Camry hybrids.
I have a question which is off topic but I just wanted to know do you guys Aarron Russo?...or have watched zeigeist?...or freedom of fascism?...and if you did watch or know this man that also ran for president can you tell me what you think about what he says? Do you think its true cause I( am new at this american bs!

so is the prius then relatively irrelevant?
along those lines, could the Prius ever be the best selling vehicle in America, or would it take something like a Camry hybrid to achieve that spot?

What kind of response are you seeking?
According to the experts, Russo's assertions do not stand up to critical scrutiny.
Of course, one might argue the 'experts' are part of the scandal.
Still, can you tie your question into hybrid technology?
I think the Prius is extremely relevant. It is the biggest re-invention of the automobile since the Model T. But how much did the horse & buggy people think the Model T was relevant?
GM looks so foolish because the Prius is relevant and the Volt is hype years after they voluntarily killed their own EV1!
I think the Prius numbers being so much higher than the Camry Hybrid and the low expectations for the Fusion Hybrid that it can't be overlooked. Buyers need to see a more complete reinvention to buy into the hybrid way of thinking. Prius sales volumes prove that.
No doubt that the unique design helps the Prius stand above the crowd, but I think that can only take hybrids so far.
A leap in battery technology still seems required in order to take hybrids to the next level. Otherwise hybrids will never see big increases in marketshare.
No, I think that the prius sales are not irrelevant even if there was no cash for clukers. Prius sale were about 10,000 a month which was to me pretty good but once the economy picks up I am pretty sure so will prius sales.
