Honda hybrid minivan by 2011
The Freed minivanOK, by American standards, the Honda Freed Minivan isn't really a minivan, but maybe American standards are in need of changing.
Anyway, Honda is now committed to offering the Freed, built on the same platform as the Fit, in a hybrid version around 2011 according to reports, with an EV version to follow by 2015.
Would the Freed hybrid resonate in America?

yes..it will be a weiner as they say - especially if it has car-wide wi-fi as a sweetener.
yeah, i think it would definitely hit the chord of the Scion crowd, minimally.
It could work nowadays in America the days of giant SUVs are over.
Hate to break it to you, but the days of the giant suv really aren't over... And the market for that ugly a** vehicle up there pales in comparison to anything else... Especially if it's expensive.
info that would be helpful in these discussions:
1. - how many dollars a day the average person spends on gasoline
2. - how many dollars a day the average person spend on a car loan repayment.
from ordinary folks point of view... I'm speculating here... a few bucks for gasoline one way or the other is not going to be a large enough percentage of their spending to alter their buying habits as long as they have a "reasonably" efficient vehicle - that term in their own perspective.
Some folks do not get weirded out with a $70 gas fillup bill..others do.
gasoline prices and their effect on consumers is interesting.
studies indicate that as gas prices go higher, people want to buy cheaper cars more than they want to buy fuel efficient cars. certainly, fuel efficiency is important, but small cheap hybrids will sell better than more expensive hybrids, such as phevs.
thus, for people whom might downsize to a fit hybrid from a crossover, this 'minivan' might be a good option, but we're probably talking gas, minimally, i the $4.00 -$5.00 range.

Shouldn't a great big Fit be called a "Fat"? ;)
But you can see why that wouldn't work, from a marketing perspective.
Perhaps Honda could have taken the same idea, while trying to establish some street cred, and called it the Honda Phat.
