New Prius hindered by battery production

Shortage of batteries slows output of Toyota Prius.Just not enough batteries

Toyota cannot keep up with Prius demand due to a shortage of battery packs according to Toyota senior managing director Takahiko Ijichi. Toyota has the capacity to produce 500,000 Prius hybrids per year, but so far Panasonic EV Energy Co has not been able to match Toyota's output. However, by next summer, Panasonic is hoping to be able to produce enough batteries per year to power 1 million hybrid cars.

In about 15 months Ill be buying a new car and it WILL be a hybrid
I cant wait to see all the super cool LOW PRICED full hybrid compacts that will be out there
It will be the dawning of a new age for the planet when over a decade or so, we reduce oil dependency, and subsequent wars, chaos, wasting TRILLIONS world wide on weapons of mass destruction - all the protect 'oil' companies ...
a new age is coming thank goodness

I'll be driving a hybrid, but it won't be an ugly compact. The Prius, Camry, Escape, and Fusion Hybrids are all excellant choices for me, as far as space, saftey, and style.

Which should I choose?

It'd be either the new Prius or the Fusion hybrid for me if I was in the market right now.

Indigo Incarnates

The hybrid I'd like to see would be one that's got some actual character. The Prius, Insight-II, and (quasi-vaporware) Volt all look nearly identical. The hybrid for me would be something based on something quirky -- like a Scion xD or Nissan Cube. Even a hybrid Fit would have some character since that car has the "cute" factor.

Believe it or not... Prius is the bigger car than the Fusion hybrid.

FH has 6 cubic foot more passenger room than Prius. Prius has 10 cubic foot more cargo room than FH. Overall, Prius has 4 cubic foot more interior volume.

and people hate the Prius design?

I know its different, but it's just so damn smart. i guess not all of us value logic over perception.

indigo- no offense on my prius design comments!

i'm not saying every hybrid fan should buy a prius because of its smart design. i'm just saying its design shouldn't be a reason to dislike the prius since it makes so much sense.

in terms of alternative hybrid designs, i'm a little excited by the Honda CR-X hybrid.
