Have you experienced Prius markups?
Mark ups on the Prius, again? There are some minor reports of a few Toyota dealers adding markups to the Toyota Prius. Fortunately, the markups are nothing like last year when dealers would as much as $5,000 or more to the price of the Prius simply because they could.
Earlier this year, several Toyota dealers told me that such a practice would not happen with the third generation Prius at the request of Toyota corporate. However, it seems as if a few dealers are not following protocol.
Have you experienced Toyota Prius markups at your local dealership?

I've never NOT experienced Prius markups -- that's why I've never owned a Prius. I've owned a Toyota Echo, a Civic Hybrid, and a Scion xD in the ten years or so that the Prius has been available, but never an actual Prius. The reason is that I'll pay sticker for a car I want, but I won't pay a penny more than sticker.
Every time I've been in the market for a car, it seems there's a deal on nice, perfectly driveable vehicles, but when I ask about the Prius, it's always "We'll sell you one if you grovel first, and then we'll bend you over the hood and stick it to you without any vaseline."
Sorry, Toyota, but I think the Prius is expensive enough without the $5,000 additional markup.
I think most agree with you, and unlike past markups, Toyota corporate did tell dealers not to engage in such practices.
That's why I drive a Civic Hybrid.
I was able to negotiate a deal that was lower than the sticker price.
Toyota, even in March of this year, when hybrid sales were down and gas was below $2.00, was unwilling to negotiate below sticker....
I guess buying a Prius is like buying a MAC. You get a little more, but at a premium price.
