Clunker hangover good for Prius buyers?
Time to go shopping soonIf you've been out shopping for a Toyota Prius recently, you might have noticed that supplies are thin, or that haggling for a better price was a wasted effort.
Now that Cash for Clunkers is over, however, traffic in dealer showrooms should wind down significantly. And, since many Clunker drivers traded in for Prius hybrids, demand for for the king of hybrid cars should also decline.
Nonetheless, if Toyota cannot secure more batteries to meet production capabilities soon, Prius supply issues could become far worse, not better.

Dont worry, Prius III will do just fine, despite the search for its 'early demise' ha.
Toyota has signed a mega deal for more batteries with Sanyo and it will do whatever it takes to get full production back in the swing.
Its an awesome car and I would LOVE to own one!! waaa hehe I dont need a new car pmt yet but when I DO, a used Prius III will be tops on my list!
(The 2010 Yaris hybrid will compete with Honda Fit hybrid, the Hyundai Elantra hybrid, a Ford Diesel Fiesta, and many other great models coming out then as well).
Isn't that Sanyo deal based on lithium batteries, however?
Those batteries can't really help Prius production, and the last I heard Panasonic EV might be a year away from hitting their production targets (Of course those targets are higher than Toyota's planned production).
