Will cash for clunkers pump hybrid sales?

Will cash for clunkers drive interest and sales towards hybrid cars?A clunker for a hybrid?

Many auto dealers have reported a strong uptick in sales thanks to the launch of the Cash for Clunkers program. I've not yet seen any data on the types of vehicles that are selling thanks to this program, but I wonder if Cash for Clunkers will result in any noticeable uptick in hybrid vehicle sales.

My prediction: Cash for Clunkers will lead to minimal, if any, increase in hybrid sales.

I dont think so as the rules are very tight about qualifying -
example
- car has to get less than 18mpg average
- car has to have clear free title
- car has to have had valid insurance for at least one year prior to sale
In Texas alone, state says one in FOUR cars on road have no valid insurance
A big % of owners of those 'clunkers' have not had auto insurance for at least a year, do not have clear title(cash for title places owes it), and can barely make ends meat as it is, so yea they would be ready for new car pmt ?? Dont think many will, but yes some will qualify

Early data indicate that a lot of vehicles are being sold. So this program will be effective in that people will trade in their guzzlers. The real question is, how much will they upgrade towards efficiency?

Only as much as needed, I'd bet.

well your right, as the program just days into its operation, has run out of its entire billion dollars!
so no more program but obviously it did work
