What dumb things have you heard from hybrid haters?

What are the dumbest hybrid hater comments you've heard? What did hybrid cars ever do to make haters so angry? Is the Fusion hybrid really clean?

The Toyota Prius actually causes more pollution than a Hummer. The batteries of hybrid cars only last a couple of years, then have to be replaced at owner expense.

Those are two of the most common hybrid hater comments. What other dumb hybrid hater comments have you heard?

"large hybrid SUV,s are worthless"
I would counter with "small hybrids are REALLY WORTHLESS." Hybrid technology is a compromise at best. You need to haul a bunch of batteries and you need to charge those batteries somehow. That charge USES ENERGY of some sort. The pure electric car is a dream right now so why not adopt an interim technology that works. I regularly see 22 to 23 mpg in my Yukon hybrid around town, this is TWICE the mileage I used to get with my Jeep. I have no use for a Prius as I do many more things with my vehicle than a drive to the Quickie Mart. Glad your prius works for you but in the USSA we have had in the past a FREEDOM of choice (I don't know how much longer that will last but for now...) so just embrace the fact that people are trying new technology to improve things. I believe my next car will be hydrogen, but unless something changes that is 10 years from now...and then there is the issue of the EXTRA water that the hydrogen cars will put out the tailpipe!

i don't advocate that large hybrid suvs are worthless for those that need such utility.

however, small hybrids are not "really worthless". no small car can even come close to achieving the fuel economy of a Prius in tough urban congestion. in such conditions a prius can achieve as much or more than 60 mpg. and serious hypermilers can do even better.

that's far better than what even a tiny smart car can achieve in such conditions, and it's certainly not worthless, especially for urban commuters.

I saw a "Sarah Palin 2012" bumper sticker on a Toyota Prius the other day.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen in regards to Hybrids...

That's pretty funny.

Still, I would hope that someone like Palin, and those with similar thinking, would understand the need for hybrid technology, even if you believe in more drilling for oil etc.
