Optional head lamp could destroy Toyota Prius
Dead on arrival?Boy, read MotorTrend or AutoWeek this morning and one might think the world has crashed on the king of hybrid cars and it's Toyota Prius.
An optional, upgraded head lamp has been faulty and potential class action lawsuits are in the works. Yet, from what I've been able to determine, this is a problem affecting only hundreds of Prius owners. Perhaps many others aren't complaining, and this problem is affecting a couple thousand owners. Nonetheless, we're talking a tiny faction of Toyota Prius owners.
Certainly, if this is a shoddy product, Toyota should recall and fix this problem. Regardless, is this something that could really hurt Prius sales, or is this just something that MotorTrend and AutoWeek are hoping will hurt Prius sales?

Motortrend said it was the previous generation Prius... not the 3rd generation.
That's true, but they also suggested it might affect new Prius sales.
ha exactly WHAT is the specific issue with the lights, the article onlys says its 'faulty' ??
that means the lights are or are not doing what ????
Isn't it a matter of simply replacing the units under warranty?
the lights are't working correctly, either never turning on, or not staying on.
in terms of the warranty, i think the lights are covered initially, but they don't last as long as the stock lights. so they go bad after warranty and cost a lot to replace.
"Girard Gibbs LLP is currently conducting an investigation involving the High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights on certain Prius models. Some consumers complain that the HID headlights on their Prius work intermittently, flicker, or suddenly cease to work entirely.
Upon taking the vehicle to the dealership for repairs, some consumers are told to replace the bulbs for a cost of as much as $500 and/or to replace the computer controlling the headlights.
