Larger Honda hybrids in the works

Larger hybrid vehicles are in Honda's very near future.A future Honda hybrid?

While announcing some updated plans for Honda's next two hybrid vehicles, Honda's new CEO, Takanobu Ito, told reporters that Honda wanted to speed up the development of its hybrids. Thus, in addition to a few new hybrid cars, Ito also announced the development of a new two motor hybrid system for medium and large sized vehicles. In fact, Honda pulled its entire Formula engineering team out of Formula One development and into hybrid development.

In the last year or so, Honda has become quite bullish on the future of hybrids, and this new hybrid powertrain seems to indicate that Honda isn't just talking hybrid. So, expect a plethora of new Honda hybrids in the very near future.

Pricing should be a lot better than the gm full size hybrids. Don't know about the highlander hybrid... Not really full size though.
What do you think, Dach?

I don't know. We don't know much yet about this new Honda hybrid powertrain, but I'd bet it'll be cheaper than GM's.

Still, part of the reason GM's large hybrid technology is more expensive is because it offers more capability. For instance, a GM hybrid can tow basically as much as a non GM hybrid. Toyota's hybrid technology isn't nearly as robust for large vehicles.

Of course, if you don't really need that functionality, then you're paying a lot extra for something you don't really need.

Ultimately, I'm more interested in whether Honda's new hybrid tech will be full hybrid technology or mild hybrid technology.
