A hybrid spice up for Scion?
A highly customizable city hybrid?Toyota is seeking to spice up its Scion brand. So, how about some hybrid Scions? Could adding a few hybrid cars to the Scion brand help Toyota increase Scion sales?
For instance, wouldn't Scion be the perfect platform for a small Toyota city hybrid?
How would you spice up Scion?

Teeny Tiny Hybrids aren't the answer for most americans--
its an excellent platform and thats exactly WHY toyota wont consider it!
Toyota and Honda look for most expensive way to produce a hybrid as it directly affects bottom line profits. yes the 'base' prices of 20k plus TTL are ok but with any add ons at all, your looking at drive out of 25+ on virtually any new hybrid.
I have to add that 'teeny tiny hybrids are just the thing for young and retirees! They both seek similar, great mileage reliability and drive out price!
If you live in texas or alabama sorry, they dont come 'extra wide' :( im bad!

Hi Anonymous:
Well it might be if we make gasoline $4.50/gallon. A $1.00/gallon gas tax to pay for renewable energy and another $1.00/gallon to pay for health care [sometimes I get really sick ideas] LOL
If you read my posts you might know by now that I live in Arizona and we have bunches of big trucks, cars and SUVs in our state. You can leave your house, jump on the Interstate, set the cruise control on 75 and probably only shut it off when it's time to stop for lunch.
When I go to California [CA] to visit my son, daughter-in-law and the grand-kids I become keenly aware of something. There are one heck of a lot of small cars in places like L.A., San Diego and the City.
For example; I stopped driving my 1 ton Dodge turbo diesel dually to CA because I couldn't fine a decent place to park it.
It won't fit in a lot of CA parking spaces or if it does fit, there is so little room between the rows that I had to jockey it back and forth just to park it.
Just saying - with more and more of our society moving from rural areas to the cities, it makes owning a small car almost a necessity if you live there.
I wonder - did someone develop this grand plan to get us to drive smaller vehicles or is it just the natural evolution of things?
Just wondering?

If there were some Scion hybrids that achieve better than Prius fuel economy for $16,000 - $17,000, I'd bet they'd sell quite well.
I remember when I was kid, everyone said no one would ever be a teeny tiny Japanese car. I think we better not make that same mistake twice.
And, as Tom notes, tiny cars are actually starting to sell very well in large cities, such as LA where I live.
