Consumer Reports slams Honda Insight

The Honda Insight hybrid is not recommended by Consumer Reports. The king of hybrid cars is still, easily the Toyota Prius. The most disappointing Honda in years

I have not yet seen the August issue of Consumer Reports, but according to CNN, CR will not recommend the Honda Insight, noting its poor "ride quality, handling, interior noise, acceleration, and rear-seat access."

In fact, out of 22 hatchbacks and small wagons, the Insight placed second to last.

Honda countered by saying initial consumer feedback and auto media press has been much more favorable regarding Honda's latest hybrid.

Ready for this news release ??
Today in my inbox was an announcement that a redesigned HONDA FIT HYBRID WILL be HERE in mid 2010!
Its base price ? $15,800 !
It is very pretty looking, sleek and sexy ha! Assuming its reviews are better than the Insight, I can wait and will purchase either this car or a slightly used loaded Prius III if on lots in mid 2010.....cant wait to test drive!
PS Anyone heard where is the news on the SCION IQ model that was SUPPOSE to be on sale NOW at Toyota dealerships ???? :(

I know in early June one of Honda's VPs confirmed that the Fit hybrid would be available for sale by mid to late 2010. That price is interesting, but what kind of amenities will be included in the base model?

We paid $17000 for a used Honda Fit Sport and love it. I imagine at $15,800, it will be pretty bare bones. We bought ours because we can fit a couple of bikes in the back and off we go. They are quite popular with cyclists around here.

considering how hard CR hit the Insight, Honda better do something interesting with the Fit hybrid.

yea that person is correct IF you want cruise control or pwr windows that will take one 'package' option each, each costing about 1300.oo ha so drive out with few amenities will prob be $18750.oo ! :(

honda had some pretty ambitious plans for insight sales. i wonder if this cr slam will require a price reduction on the Insight?

Maybe that's why Honda pushed ahead the launch of its next two hybrids, which not long ago, weren't due to hit until late 2011 at the earliest.

I test drove an Insight when I bought my Civic Hybrid.

I did not see much difference from a quality standpoint.

Consumer reports rates quality as it compares to a Cadillac or BMW. One does not expext a Prius or an Insight to handle and perform like a BMW.

In reality, there is one quality feature hybrid drivers are looking for that outweighs all other features. That feature is fuel economy.

Fuel economy is only a small part of the CR rating overall score.

There is definitely merit in that argument, Smurf.

Still, CR has recommended a number of hybrids over the years - even ranking a number of them top picks.

This is a bit out of the ordinary. It seems this isn't an indictment of Honda's hybrid technology or even Honda vehicles in general, it's an indictment of the Insight in and of itself.

Maybe there are just too many Prius expectations built into the Insight - almost as if it has to be better than the Prius, otherwise it's junk.

This car is a FAIL on looks alone....it really does look hideous...in pictures and in person.

I sincerely hope Honda brings a Fit hybrid in Sport package trim. Otherwise no thanks.

Indigo Incarnates

My only real gripe with the Insight-II is that looks somewhat unrefined and rushed to market. It's likely that the next cosmetic redesign will fix a lot of this car's shortcomings.

With two new hybrids on the horizon, it'll be interesting to see how Honda moves forward with the Insight.
