180,000 Prius orders in Japan already
Can Toyota build 'em fast enough? The new Toyota Prius has barely been on sale for a month in Japan, and already 180,000 orders have been placed for the hot new hybrid - more than Toyota was hoping to sell in Japan for the year.
In the States, the Prius is slowly starting to hit some dealers, but the supply of the new Prius is extremely low. So, if you're in the market, be prepared for a long wait.

This once again proves....
Higher gas prices, combined with tax incentives for hybrids results in increased hybrid sales.
In the U.S, we'll never get this volume of hybrids because we limit hybrid tax credits to 60,000 per manufacturer and keep gasoline taxes low.....
I have to wonder about how 'liberal' Obama is ?? Hes def positive about solar and wind and unified electric net so that cheap power can be sold to other states to help keep prices down, however what the hec is up with such cruddy rebates or incentives for super GREEN cars ????
There should be at least a flat $3500 rebate for ANY VEHICLE that averages at least 35 MPG for now and more every year... Man would we see hybrid sales TAKE OFF!
I'm watching what happens when those expensive batteries ($3500.oo I understand?),, have to be replaced!
This will be interesting!
Toyota has sold more than 1 million hybrids over the course of more than 10 years and less than a percent have had their batteries replaced, and some of these hybrids aren't just 10+ years old, they have several hundred thousand miles on them.
The battery is intended to last the life of the vehicle, and so far it has.

Obama's task force will end up pumping more than 100 billion into the US auto industry. So, a little protectionism is to be expected. Unfortunately, US automakers sell very few hybrids. If Obama offered new tax credits for regular hybrids, it would benefit Toyota and Honda at the expense of, especially, Chrysler and GM.
It sucks, but it's reality.
