Insight top selling vehicle in Japan
Hybrids ruleThe Honda Insight was the top selling vehicle in Japan for the month of April, the first time a hybrid vehicle has ever clinched the top spot. According to the AP, Honda sold 10,481 Insights.
With the new Toyota Prius set to launch, it will be interesting to see if two hybrid cars could soon top Japan's best selling list.

Honda was the only domestic brand to see its car sales rise in April from the year before. Still, with falling auto sales in the US (including hybrids), a key market for hybrid vehicles, and US gas prices at very consumer-friendly low-levels, it will be a struggle for Honda, or any automaker with a hybrid on the market, to achieve the same thing in the United States.
Greenskid, it looks like USA is not the largest automarket anymore:

Dahc, viva the hybrids, viva the change. The gasoline guzzlers have been mostly unchanged for almost one hundred year: it is good to see things change. I want to see fuel cell cars and electric cars on highways worldwide :-)
you're right, greenskid. still, good sales in japan, for instance, do help bring scalability, and that should have an eventual effect on pricing points.
however, until gas gets back up to $3.00 per gallon or so, we probably won't see a real big uptick in hybrid sales.
yet, early preorder data on the new prius is pretty impressive.
