Vue: Another kink in GM's plug-in chain?
Is the Saturn Vue plug-in hybrid dead?Well over a year ago GM was road testing an almost production ready plug-in hybrid. No, not the Chevy Volt, which GM prefers to call a range extended electric vehicle rather than a plug-in hybrid, but the Saturn Vue dual mode plug-in hybrid.
Now that Saturn is almost assuredly dead or gone, is this plug-in hybrid dead?
With some studies questioning the efficiency of large battery plug-in vehicles, such as the Volt, the Saturn Vue plug-in hybrid could be a nice complement to GM's plug-in plans. Even if Saturn is dead, I sure hope GM resurrects this technology in another GM brand.

What I find interesting about GM's re-organization plans is that they're throwing away what I think are some of the more progressive parts of the organization (i.e. Saturn) and keeping the old entrenched parts like Pontiac and GMC. It seems like they're still not willing to change. I'm still waiting for my 60 MPG car at a fair price. I don't really care how low the cost of gas gets. It's more about energy independence and clean air as far as I'm concerned.
Amen Anon - spread the word
Isn't Pontiac also a potential chopping block candidate?
Unfortunately, Saturn never lived up to the hype. And, while Bob Lutz seemed to get Saturn back on track, its still too much overlap in this market. No reason Chevy couldn't absorb most of Saturn's product success.
Sadly, I'm not sure any of GM's current decisions get you into a cost-effective GM 60 mpg car any sooner.
GM is going to bankruptcy and when its resurrected, its 'sister/green twin' GM GREEN will slowly get up and start running. Yes its about 3 years behind toyota, honda and hyundai, but it will make a come back. It will be a fresh new face, with very little debt...new creative thinking and backers, workers who are paid a fair wage with fair benefits, nothing more or less and thats an exciting starting point.
We all have knocked the 'sick side' of GM ha, but the new GREEN GM will shine :) and it will create some nifty hybrid vehicles...you watch by 2011 it will be a major world competitor again, even in USA!... and deep down, isnt that what everyone really wanted all along :) You go GM GREEN !
My latest post today covers this GM green idea indirectly.
Can GM green really compete with Asia, more specifically, China?
