Toyota Highlander hybrid recall

Recall involving 2008 Toyota Highlander hybrids.Do you have a 2008 Highlander hybrid?

39,100 Toyota Highlanders, including some hybrids, need to have an exhaust clamp repaired. Notices should be arriving in May, but if you bought your Highlander hybrid in 2008, you might want to give Toyota a buzz.

Owners can call Toyota at 800-331-4331 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.

This headline is exactly the type of hybrid scare tactic used by mainsteam media/big 3/big oil to raise FUD on hybrids, when it has nothing to do with hybrids.
Why this headline here?

Because some Highlander hybrids, according to the report I read, were affected by this problem, and this is a notice to Highlander hybrid owners.

If there were a recall notice on my hybrid I'd like to know as soon as possible, not because I was going to trade it in out of disappointment, but because I'd want it fixed.

Perhaps, I could have underscored the fact that this recall has nothing to do with hybrid technology, but I assume most reading this blog would understand that we're not trying to scare potential hybrid buyers away. Just trying to keep them informed about issues affecting their hybrids.

Sorry for being so harsh. If we assume this site is viewed mostly by hybrid owners, then I guess it's OK, but I often see these kinds of headlines other "green" sites (and sometimes they do mean them in a negative way) and it just irks me everytime I see these. And then other sites will reference those headlines. Just taking the "hybrid" out of the title would be enough.

I don't think you were being harsh. I know exactly what you mean, and had I finished my first cup of coffee before posting, I probably would have thought the same thing.

Without doubt I should have made it clear that this wasn't an issue related to hybrid technology.

Thanks to you, at least we covered that in the comments.

That is the most civil internet exchange of comments I have ever read. Thank you both for setting a model of civil interaction while discussing a substantive conflict and getting it resolved.
