New Prius just $22,000

New, 2010 Toyota Prius pricing.Cheaper than the current Prius

The new base 2010 Toyota Prius will begin at $22,000, a great price, but it will not include navigation, a solar roof, or a number of other high tech features.

The current Prius will be redesigned and offered for $21,000.

Overall, there will be five different Prius packages, with a fully loaded Prius hitting almost $32,000.

$32k IS A LOT of money...way too much for me in terms of a car. I think it's ridiculous that they offer all those add-ons for so much. I guess this car will stay the yuppie/wealthy - mobile people say it is.

but that fully loaded Prius comes with a ton of cool features.

you think $22,000 is still too much for the base 2010? this car is pretty loaded with high tech gadgetry. i don't see how toyota can make money of this.

still, i would have liked to see toyota sell the redesigned 2nd gen prius for $19 or less.

perhaps toyota will bring a yaris or auris hybrid to market sooner than anticipated.

I think $22k is a great price for a starter version and $32k is very reasonable for a car with leather, nav and solar panels. Can't wait to see it!

I think its a steal. of course, if there is any demand for this vehicle, which i expect, despite this recession, dealers are going to quickly add markups.

ok i have a job which one in 10 people from accountants to mechanics no longer have , so i guess if this month you are still employed fully loaded it could be considered a 'steal' :)
I agree with the other person that says lets wait for Honda Fit Hybrid which Ill wager will have lots features and cost 3-5k less than other hybrids
or Toyota yaris type hybrid coming in 2010
or Ford Fiesta diesel (nice looking) with super mileage coming in 2010
or 2010(2 models fully loaded very slick looking!) coming you guessed it ..2010 ha
2010 is majical year when there will suddenly be a plethora of 20k nice hybrids out in the market...:)
and yea for me 32k is way too high for that much i would even go ford fusion hybrid whose rides and more in my opinion are far better than T o H models

I'd like to see Toyota offer a Scion hybrid too.. I love my xD and I keep thinking how awesome it would be if it was more fuel efficient too.

Toyota Prius costs a lot lesser than it did in 2007. I wonder how Toyota is managing the costs, despite recession. Japanese surely always find a way to tackle crisis.

For $22,000, the Prius is a steal in terms of how much car you get for the money, especially compared to the current Prius. That doesn't mean its a steal compared to all cars.

It has more high tech features. It's bigger, faster, more fuel efficient and more cost-effective than the current model. In terms of Toytoa hybrids, how can that not be a steal?

Indigo-

I've always thought the same, especially considering the audience the Scion attracts - typically younger, hipper consumers.

Even though I'm a hybrid driver, I still think hybrids and many of their drivers come across as, well, dorky. Yuppie as Noz stated.

Scion offers the opportunity to make hybrids a bit more edgy and hip.

BTW, this new Prius price is going to hurt the Ford Fusion hybrid at $27,000 base

Good think Ford was only going to make 25K Fusion hybrids... sigh

i'd really have like to have seen Ford take a giant step and put lithium in the fusion hybrid when it debuted, especially since its only 25,000 vehicles per year.

i'm hoping that Ford is going to offer a new, undisclosed lithium hybrid next year. they could stun the market. couple that with Ford's handling of this recession, and Ford would clean house.

i know it sounds unrealistic, but i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

still, i think this prius will kick ass. i also wish it was powered by lithium, but this is a heck of a hybrid for the money.
