More luxury hybrids to the rescue!
Just what America needs nowGM will be bringing a few new hybrid vehicles to market soon. Great news, right?
That's if you can overcome the sticker shock for these hybrids. For instance the GMC Yukon Denali hybrid will begin at almost $60,000. The new Cadillac Escalade hybrid platinum edition begins at more than $85,000.
$85,000 for the ultimate Cadillac is expensive, but I guess 20 mpg in the city is priceless.

yea its 'just what America needs now' ! ha NOT.........
To sell luxury Suv's that range out of the pocketbook of 97% of most Americans (that still have a house and and job a year from now) is myopic. Its just plain shortsightedness.....I dont get it but Im not in the 3% that gets Bush tax breaks sorry i forgot my bad .......
This has nothing to do with Bush. This is a company trying to create as much green press as possible because that's Obama's mantra.
If you don't trust GM, then you should be demanding that Obama's task force push both GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy. Period.
I don't get it.
The American auto makers seem hell bent on proving that Americans don't want Hybrids.
If you are strictly going to sell oversized Hybrids, why not sell a Chevy Silverado Hybrid that has more of a mainstream price and can be used for work?
For now hybrids are purely about the appearance of being green for US automakers. They haven't yet really bought into the technology and it appears they might not ever. The only US automaker really showing any indication that it might get it is Ford, but they are still dragging their feet pretty heavily.
thats true a smaller HYBRID PICK UP would sell like HOT CAKES / I dont need a new car but a hybrid pick up would def make me wanna drive one and more !
I would assume, perhaps falsely, that most pickup drivers don't regularly tow much weight around often. Instead, they lug around ladders and tools, etc.
For such utility, Ford could use the same hybrid powertrain in the Escape hybrid for a Ranger type vehicle. Toyota could use the same HSD in the Highlander hybrid, etc..
Considering the importance of Ford's trucks, in terms of sales, the fact this hasn't been done is disappointing.
This is why GM is toast.
